The Veterans Tribute is an annual presentation of the Friends of Michigan History, the statewide membership group that supports the programs of the Michigan Historical Center. Held every year on the Sunday before Veterans Day, the Veterans Tribute features:
a guest speaker
a Massing of the Colors ceremony
a reception with refreshments
The 2010 program features Detroit native, Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson (USAF, ret.). A member of World War II's legendary Tuskegee Airmen, Jefferson served as a P-51 fighter pilot with the Red Tail, 332nd Fighter Group, 301st Fighter Squadron in Ramitelli,Italy. he flew 18 long-range escort missions for B-17 and B-24 bombers; in August 1944, he was shot down, captured by German troops and held for nine months as a prisoner of war.
In addition to Lt. Col. Jefferson's talk, members of the Michigan Army National Guard, Delta Company Air Unit (located in Grand Ledge, Michigan), will share their overseas experiences.
Our special musical guest is Vocal Dimensions, the Jackson Northwest High School Choir, under the direction of Matthew Snell.
You don't have to be a veteran to attend this annual event—just a person interested in the contributions and sacrifices made by American men and women in service to their country.
