September is Library Card Sign-up Month! That makes sense because a library card is the most important school supply of all, providing students with the resources they need to succeed. CADL card holders have free access to databases, news articles, encyclopedias, test preparation materials and much more.
Besides all that, public libraries are the number one access point for free Internet access. This is an important resource for families without access at home, especially when more and more school assignments require Internet use. We offer public computers with high speed Internet and up-to-date software, plus free WiFi for those who bring in their own laptops or mobile devices.
In addition to resources, libraries also offer lively events that make learning fun for school-aged kids. They can join a book discussion group, read out loud to a specially-trained dog, enjoy a book-themed party-even join a Lego building club! Studies show that playing with interactive, imaginative toys like building blocks help kids develop essential reading skills.
Adult students will find support at the library, too, starting with a wide variety of computer classes on topics ranging from Excel Basics to Photo Editing. We can also help with your research and point you to scholarly sources that go far beyond Google.
