News Spotlight: Shooting Investigation Updated to Homicide

On May 9, 2018 at approximately 7:11 a.m. Lansing Police were dispatched to a shooting in the 700 block of Cleveland St.
Upon arrival, officers locate an unresponsive male (victim, 27 yrs.) subject lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
 
Officers on scene investigation developed suspect description and possible suspect vehicle information. This information was shared with assisting officers and law enforcement agencies.
 
Within a short time, Lansing Police were dispatched to a single car accident on US 127 near Dunckel (car in median). Officers responding to the accident were updated with information that a separate motorist (carjacking victim) stopped to assist the accident. The motorist reported their vehicle was physically taken by the accident driver (suspect). The motorist suffered minor injuries during the confrontation. Officers arrived and were able to give this information out to assisting officers and agencies. Officers noted the accident vehicle and the driver resembled the description of the shooting suspect and vehicle.
 
Within a short period law enforcement patrol located the suspect and vehicle in Livingston County and was able to secure the car and arrest the suspect.
 
UPDATE:
The shooting victim has passed away. The shooting investigation has become a homicide investigation. The shooting/homicide appears to be domestic related with the victim and suspect having been associated.
 
At this point in the early stages of the Homicide investigation and it is believe the arrested carjacking suspect is the homicide suspect. Information is subject to change and be updated. As new information is gathered and obtained, it will be made available. There are no outstanding subjects and no threat to the public as it relates to this crime.
