News Spotlight: Granholm to Meet with Google in California, Pitch Michigan for Fiber Optic Network Trial

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm on March 10, 2010, will meet with officials at Google in California to thank them for their ongoing investment in Michigan and encourage the company to include the state in the testing of Google fiber, its new ultra-high speed fiber optic broadband network. Earlier today, Granholm met with venture capitalists and high-tech company representatives in Menlo Park in an effort to persuade them to bring investment and business to Michigan.

Lansing Area African American Genealogy Society: Local History Abounds in Lansing

The Lansing Area African American Genealogy Society (LAAAGS) and the Fred Hart Williams Genealogy Society from Detroit took a trip to Cass County, MI in June of 2009. They followed the Underground Railroad route that was used in the county during slavery. The Underground Railroad historical marker is in Vandalia, MI, which became a city where runaway slaves settled on their way to Canada.
