Early Voting is now open for City General Election at South Washington and City Hall Extended Hours on Wednesdays & the Weekend prior to Election Day Voter Registration available until Election Day at City Clerk’s Offices The South Washington Election Unit is open to Lansing City voters for early voting and voter registration for the November 2nd City General Election. Voters will vote for the Mayor, City Clerk, Second Ward, Fourth Ward, and 2 At-Large seats on City Council.Located at 2500 S. Washington, the Election Unit offers free parking, a 24-hour secure drop box, and is conveniently located on CATA Route #2. Walk-in early voting will be available at the Election Unit from September 23rd until Election Day at the following times: Mon., Tues., Thurs. & Fri. 8 am – 5 pmWednesday 8 am – 7 pmMonday, Nov. 1st Only 8 am – 4 pm (due to state law)In addition to regular hours, the Election Unit will be open on the following weekend day:Saturday, October 30th 11 am – 7 pmSunday, October 31st 11 am – 4 pm Walk-in absentee voting is also available at City Hall from 8 am to 5 pm M-F. There are two exceptions in Michigan election law which restrict early voting. On the day before the election, no absentee ballots can be issued after 4 p.m. except in an emergency situation. Also, on Election Day, absentee ballots can only be issued to people registering to vote on Election Day. At lansingvotes.com, voters may download the form to request an absentee ballot, find the closest drop boxes, check on the status of their absentee applications, and view the list of candidates with their contact information and so much more. Absentee voters who want to skip the required postage when returning their absentee ballot applications or ballots may use one of fifteen secure drop boxes. Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope encourages everyone to sign up to be placed on the automatic application list to vote from home for future elections. Voters can request to be placed on this list by contacting the Clerk’s Office at (517) 483-4131 or visiting lansingvotes.com. There is no longer a deadline for voter registration. Until Monday, October 18 Lansing residents can register to vote through any SOS Branch office, online at Michigan.gov/votes, at the County Clerk’s Office or through any voter registration drive. From October 19th through Election Day, to be eligible to vote in the November 2nd election, you need to register in person at your local Clerk’s Office with proof of identity and residency. In fact, you can register and vote an absentee ballot all in one visit.Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, absentee ballot applications have also been mailed to every active voter who has not already requested one, making the voting process safer and easier for Lansing voters. Secure drop boxes, where absentee voters may drop off ballots before 8 p.m. on Election Day are available within 1.5 miles of any Lansing resident.
